Why Was My Poop Steaming?

February 15, 2024

When something is steaming it means that it is hotter than the air surrounding it. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what it is. For instance, if you put your hand in a pot of boiling water and the steam comes off of it, it means that the water is hotter than your skin is. This is a good thing because it means that the heat is getting transferred from the hotter object to your skin, which will help keep you warm!

The same principle applies to your poop. Your body is warmer than the air temperature, so whenever you poop or pee, it will come out steaming because it's at almost 100 degrees and when it hits the colder toilet bowl, the hotter substance gives off some of its heat as a kind of mini-fog, hence the name.

It might also be that the toilet cleaning solution you use is causing a chemical reaction with your poo and the result is steam. The best way to prevent this is to clean the toilet with a different disinfectant that doesn't contain any chemicals.

If you are eating a very healthy diet, you should not see any food particles in your poop. The reason for this is that your digestive enzymes will break down most of the fiber in your poop before it's released from your body. If you're seeing lots of food particles, it might be a sign that your digestive system isn't functioning properly.
