The best places to get mini pumpkins are grocery stores and farm markets, where they’re typically on sale for the season. These gourds make gorgeous seasonal decorations and can be used in your Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas decor.
Hy-Vee has large carving pumpkins on sale for $0.99 through October 4. This is the cheapest price we found on these full-sized fresh pumpkins, and it’s also a good way to get a head start on your fall decorating!
While the prices and selection of fresh pumpkins at this upscale grocery chain aren’t quite as low as we’ve seen elsewhere, they still have a lot to offer. You can find regular pumpkins for $5.99-$6.99 each, as well as some unique varieties like “fairytale” and “knucklehead.”
The Albertsons/Food 4 Less in my area has a huge selection of gourds and decorative pumpkins. I’m impressed with their flat-rate pricing on everything from large carving pumpkins to small pie pumpkins.
Target is my favorite place to shop for all-purpose produce and household items, and I was happy to see that their produce prices are a bit more reasonable than most of the others we looked at. They’re also pretty competitive on regular flat-rate pumpkins, but they’re slightly higher for pie pumpkins.
This big-box retailer isn’t a good option for all types of pumpkins, but they do have one of the lowest prices we’ve found on regular flat-rate pumpkins and pie pumpkins. They’re basically tied with Jewel/Albertsons for the lowest pie pumpkin cost, but they don’t carry as many of these tiny fruits as other retailers do.
