If you’re a fan of Below Deck, then you know that the crew members work long hours on the yacht while the cameras are rolling. The cast sacrifices all of their privacy for weeks on end while pretending to ignore the presence of the cameras, and they also have to adhere to a set of rules for the duration of filming.
Many fans have wondered where the engineers sleep on below deck. The production crew doesn’t live on the boat with the charter guests and the crew, but where do they sleep while filming? Both Below Deck Mediterranean alum Colin Macy-O’Toole and Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Captain Lee Rosbach addressed this curiosity in the past.
Rosbach’s answer was brief, but he did confirm that the production crew stays in hotels while the yacht is docked or anchored. There is only so much space on the yacht for the entire production team, so most of them stay in hotels until the yacht is ready to sail again.
Macy-O’Toole also revealed that the engineer on the Below Deck Sailing Yacht is often referred to as the “mentalist.” This season, viewers got an inside look at the mentalist’s job when the deck crew messed up dinner service for the guests and Kyle radioed the mentalist to let him know what happened. Watch Below Deck on Peacock and the Bravo app to see what happens when the crew’s morale hits rock bottom.
