Pahrump is a small town located an hour west of Las Vegas. Its proximity to Sin City makes it a popular destination for tourists, but it also offers many attractions for residents. Despite its arid climate, there are numerous parks and recreation areas in the area. The town is also home to several casinos and golf courses.
While Pahrump has a lot to offer, it is not without its drawbacks. One of the biggest concerns is its lack of health facilities. The nearest hospital is located nearly an hour away in Las Vegas, which can be problematic if someone needs emergency care.
Another issue is the windy conditions in Pahrump. The town is situated in a basin between multiple mountain ranges, which funnels strong winds throughout the area. These winds can damage property, make it difficult to heat homes and can cause dust storms that reduce visibility on roads.
The Town of Pahrump has been working to mitigate these issues by implementing an action plan to improve air quality. Efforts to reduce dust from disturbed vacant land and unpaved roads have resulted in significant reductions in PM10 emissions. The town has been in attainment of the 24-hour PM10 standard since December 31, 2009.
