What is the Fastest Truck in the World?

June 1, 2023

While pickup trucks are primarily designed for hauling loads and tackling rough terrain, the best ones can also give sports cars a run for their money when it comes to speed. Some can even incinerate a set of tires right off the showroom floor. The most impressive of these is the Rivian EV pickup truck, which combines four electric motors to produce an insane amount of power and torque.

Rivian lent two near-production R1Ts to MotorTrend, which used them for a series of acceleration and quarter-mile runs. The company's algorithms determine the optimal amount of power to send to each motor based on the vehicle's acceleration demands, so its electric vehicles are capable of producing maximum output at any throttle position. The results of the tests are incredibly impressive, but it is important to note that MotorTrend controls for variables like wind and track conditions when conducting these tests.

The Ford SVT Raptor is a beast when it comes to off-roading, thanks to its long-travel suspension and off-road lineage. It is also one of the fastest production trucks to reach 60 mph, with a 5.2-second time and a 14.2-second quarter-mile run at 97.3 mph.

Another powerful production pickup is the Chevrolet Silverado 6.2, which packs a massive 6.2-liter V-8 engine good for 420 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which helps the truck achieve its impressive 0-60 times and blitz through the quarter-mile.
