INDIANAPOLIS -- A driver is dead after a multi-vehicle crash on i 465 in indiana today. Indiana State Police say the man was driving northbound on i 465 when he approached a construction area where four northbound lanes split into three right lanes and one left lane separated by a concrete barrier wall. Officials say the driver attempted to shift into the left lane at the last second and hit a crash attenuator, which bounced back into the right three lanes wrecking four more vehicles in the process. The driver of the vehicle that struck the attenuator was pronounced dead at the scene. The right three lanes of the roadway remain closed but are expected to reopen by 11pm tonight.
The crash occurred around 8pm near the 38.9 mile marker in the northbound lanes of the interstate in Fort Wayne. The driver of the car involved was unresponsive and after several lifesaving attempts were unsuccessful, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the car was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for a while to clear the wreckage.
