The area that is now Milton was first settled by tribes of the Cherokee Native Americans. The majority of the city’s land is used for residential and commercial development. The three main commercial development areas are Deerfield/Highway 9, Crabapple, and Birmingham Crossroads. These zones allow for high density development. About 80% of the city’s residential property is zoned for agriculture and the rest is either forest or agricultural. There is also a wide variety of recreational activities available.
