While there are some ideal times to meditate, like early in the morning or before you go to bed, it’s important to be flexible and find the time that works best for you. Some days you may feel ready to dive into a session and other times it might be more difficult or even frustrating, but this is totally normal and part of the mindfulness journey!
For many, meditating first thing in the morning is the preferred time of day as it helps to set the tone for the day ahead and can help you feel refreshed and focused. However, if you’re struggling to stick with this practice or you don’t feel as productive in the morning, then evening meditation is an excellent alternative. This is a great time to relax, let go of frustrations or any worries you might have and can also make it easier to fall asleep and get a good night’s rest!
If you do decide to try a morning meditation, make sure to have some quiet space where you won’t be disturbed and start by setting aside 10 minutes for the practice. If possible, aim to do the same routine each day, as this is a key factor in forming a habit and making it stick. It will also help to eliminate any distractions, such as coffee or tea, as these can interfere with your focus. If your mind wanders, simply bring it back to your breath. This is the purpose of a mindful meditation practice and it will become easier with each session!
