Scripture Meditation - How to Meditate on the Word

June 8, 2024

Scripture meditation is more than reading and re-reading your Bible verses. It is a deeper process that allows you to truly connect with the text on an emotional level and makes it more applicable to your life and circumstances. It is the way that you live and think about the word of God and what it means to you and others. It takes time and devotion. It is a practice that will help you to truly grasp the full meaning of what Jesus said in Matthew 4:4: "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."

Taking your daily Scripture reading and meditating on it in your mind for at least fifteen minutes each day is an important part of our spiritual growth and maturation as believers. There are a variety of ways to meditate on the word, from memorizing it and repeating it over in your head, to writing out what you read and pondering its significance to you, and even creating art with the words.

This month we encourage you to spend some time meditating on the word about love. It can be a single passage, a couple of short verses, or a whole chapter. Just pick a scripture and ponder it as if you were looking at each facet of a diamond - what does it tell you about who God is, what does it say about your own heart, and how can this truth be applied to your life right now?
