With meditation being praised as an effective combatant against anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness and pain, finding inner peace is more important than ever. Fortunately, the Mother City is home to a number of centres that help you find your zen with a range of courses, classes and retreats to suit all levels of experience.
The Tushita Kadampa Buddhist Centre is located in Observatory and is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition: International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU). The centre offers introductory Buddhist meditation classes that are suitable for both beginners and those with some experience. Each class includes a short talk about the importance of meditation and a guided meditation session. Classes are free but a donation is suggested to help support the centre and its programs.
Tessa Roos is the resident mindfulness teacher at the centre. She has her Post-Graduate Certificate in Mindfulness Interventions from Stellenbosch University and has been teaching mindfulness in the medical, private and corporate fields since 2020.
