How To Test Salt Level In Pool?

Salt levels are a crucial part of maintaining the health of your saltwater pool. You should be testing your pool’s salinity regularly to ensure your water is at the proper concentration.

There are several ways to check the salt level in your pool, including using test strips, drop kits, or digital salinity meters. These methods will vary by manufacturer, but they all offer a convenient way to get an accurate reading of your pool’s salinity.

Using Strips to Test Salt

If you’re using test strips to check your pool’s salinity, you’ll need to submerge the end of the strip into your water for a few minutes. During this time, the red line will slowly change color. Once the color has reached a deep shade of red, it’s safe to pull the strip out of the water.

Using Drops to Test Salt

If your saltwater generator is giving you an inaccurate reading, you may have a clogged cell or other equipment that’s inhibiting the meter from sending an accurate signal. Cleaning the cell according to your model’s user guide is a good first step.

Taking a Sample of Water to the Store

Another option is to take a sample of water from your pool and have it tested at a local pool shop. This is a great way to get an accurate reading, but it can also be costly.

Whether you’re a DIY homeowner or you hire someone to do your saltwater pool maintenance, knowing how to test your water is vital for maintaining a healthy and happy pool. By testing your water at least once a month, you’ll know whether you’re on track to maintain a healthy and balanced pool.
