How to Meditate in Spiritfarer

June 8, 2024

Spiritfarer is a relaxing and meaningful game with a great story and plenty of meaningful quests to do. It also has a unique ability that, while not making a huge difference in the core game loop, can be very helpful for speeding up quests that are based on time of day or location. That ability is meditation.

To meditate, simply find a peaceful spot in the world and press your interact button (Y on Nintendo Switch, Square on PS4, or X on Xbox One) to open up a small menu where you can choose whether to meditate or not. If you meditate, the game will prompt you to enter a meditative state where you can focus your attention on either your own pain or that of another spirit. During this time, you can use Tonglen, which involves inhaling negativity and suffering into your spirit, absorbing it like a spiritual vacuum cleaner, and then exhaling love and healing to the other.

While this is the recommended way to meditate in Spiritfarer, it's always a good idea to experiment with different directions and see what feels right for you. For example, many experienced meditators feel that facing north provides stability and grounding while east offers connection to the physical realm. Of course, there's no wrong answer, as it all depends on your individual experience and meditative goals.
