How Much Do Neurodiagnostic Technologists Make?

March 19, 2024

If you have a passion for neuroscience and a desire to work in health care, neurodiagnostic technology is the perfect field for you. The job involves a variety of medical tests, procedures and monitoring devices for patients suffering from neurological disorders like seizures or epilepsy. You may also be responsible for performing tests and studies on brain tumors, head trauma or stroke. This career is well suited for people who enjoy working indoors and have a practical problem-solving personality.

You will need a high school diploma or equivalent to start this career, although some employers may prefer candidates with a college degree. To become a neurodiagnostic technologist, you should complete a two-year program with an accredited school. During the course of study, you will take professional exams from the National Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine or the ABRET Neurodiagnostic Credentialing and Accreditation to get certified in your specialty area. It is a good idea to volunteer at healthcare facilities during your schooling to gain experience in the industry.

The highest paid Neurodiagnostic Technologists are found in the states of AK, CT, NY and RI. However, just moving to one of these higher paying states doesn’t necessarily mean you will earn more because the expenses at that state might be twice as high as where you are currently living.

The majority of neurodiagnostic technologists are employed by private companies in the health care industry. In some cases, they can even find employment in their own labs if they have the right qualifications. Other than this, they typically work in hospitals, clinics, doctors’ offices, sleep labs and epilepsy monitoring units.
