How Much Damage Do Melee Attacks Do in Overwatch?

February 18, 2024

A well-placed melee attack is one of the most important tools a hero has in overwatch. With a good hitbox and high damage, it can take down even the biggest heroes in a few seconds, making it a critical component of any team. But, how much damage do melee attacks actually do?

Each hero in overwatch has a quick melee attack, ranging from punches and kicks to pistol whips and stock strikes. Most do 30 damage, but some, like Reinhardt’s hammer or Torbjorn’s dynamite, do more. It’s also worth noting that if you melee an enemy who isn’t staggered by the attack, it will cancel your overwatch (unless you have it activated already).

While this is fine for most situations, it can become problematic when you’re trying to secure a kill on a low health target and your quick melee attack isn’t enough to do the job. Thankfully, there is an easy workaround for this problem: simply switch to your crowbar or junker musket and you’ll deal double melee damage.

Alternatively, you can use the “block” ability, which reduces melee damage and breaks blocks by enemies. This method is more time consuming, but it’s still significantly better than simply using your melee attack without activating overwatch.
