We all lead busy lives, and finding time to meditate can seem impossible. But the fact is that mindfulness meditation can take place at any moment, including during daily activities such as showering. This article explores whether you can meditate in the shower, and how you might go about it.
Begin with setting your intention for your meditation. You can do this by closing your eyes and breathing deeply. This will help you focus on the experience and re-focus your mind when it starts to wander. You can also choose a calming scent of soap or shower gel to help you stay focused.
Once you’re in the shower, close your eyes and feel the water washing over you. Imagine the white ethereal light soaking into your skin, and pouring through each of your pores. This light is filled with positive energy, healing, forgiveness, joy, gratitude, confidence, giving and connection.
Notice where in your body you are holding tension or stress, and let the water wash it away. Visualise these negative feelings swirling down the drain and being cleansed by the water. Lastly, give love to each part of your body, and tell them how much you appreciate them for all the work they do to support you in your daily life.
The beauty of this practice is that it doesn’t need to involve any major changes to your daily routine, but instead requires a shift in awareness and a willingness to tune into the senses around you. Try to spend the majority of your shower meditation with your eyes closed, focusing on the sound of the water, the feeling of the warm water cascading over you and the smell of the soap.
