waterfalls in Arkansas

Arkansas is known as the 'Natural State' and the many waterfalls that it is home to are a testament to this. From its parks, forests and mountains to its caves, rivers and hot springs, this state is truly nature at its finest.

Aside from its impressive landscape, the state is also home to some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the United States. These are a must-visit for anyone visiting the Natural State!

Glory Hole Falls

Located in the Ozark National Forest near Deer, Arkansas, Glory Hole Falls is one of the most unique waterfalls in the area. This falls occurs when a creek cuts a hole in an overhanging bluff and begins to flow through it.

Depending on the time of year, the water flow can be a trickle or a full river pouring into the bluff from its ceiling. This makes for an interesting and unique geographic feature that has led many hikers to make this their most sought-after waterfall in the area.

The trail to the Glory Hole is easy to find and not too difficult to hike – though the trail can get a little muddy after a good rain. During the winter, parts of the waterfall can even become frozen.

Natural Dam Falls

The forces of nature and eons of time formed this waterfall along Mountain Fork Creek in Crawford County. It may look like it was fashioned by the hand of a master stone mason, but in reality, it's a natural rock wall and cascade curtain that has stood for centuries.

If you're looking for a relaxing place to take in the Arkansas landscape, this is one of the best spots. It's a short walk from the parking lot up a hill to a level trail that runs within eyeshot of the falls.

It's the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's also a good spot to watch the water as it pours over the rocky dam. The cliffs surrounding the waterfall provide an excellent backdrop for photo opportunities and can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages.

Reflection Falls

Arkansas is known as 'The Natural State' for good reason, and with its stunning geology it is also a hot-spot for waterfall enthusiasts. There are numerous enticing waterfalls in the state, many of which are accessible by hike or bike, so it's easy to find your perfect Arkansas waterfall!

The awe-inspiring Hemmed-in-Hollow Falls in the stunning Ponca Wilderness Area may be one of the most famous cascades in all of Arkansas. At nearly 210 feet tall, this is one of the highest waterfalls in The Natural State.

This remote waterfall is only accessible by a strenuous hike, so it's rarely busy and you'll have it all to yourself. There's a gorgeous plunge pool to dip your feet in and it's an amazing experience all-year round!

The ninety-five foot Cedar Falls in Petit Jean State Park is another great Arkansas waterfall that can be viewed from the trail. It's a beautiful bluff walk that takes about an hour to get to and the views are well worth it.

Cedar Falls

The centerpiece of Petit Jean State Park atop Petit Jean Mountain near Morrilton, Cedar Falls is a 95-foot waterfall that cascades into Cedar Creek. The rushing water creates a spectacular "splash-down" view and rainbows as it drops into the creek.

It’s easy to understand why this waterfall is one of the most popular in Arkansas. The best time to shoot it is in the springtime, when redbuds along the creek are in bloom and the waterfalls are flowing.

You can also catch the falls at night with a low sun and light clouds. It’s pretty spectacular too, especially when the water is flowing very heavily!

The trail to Cedar Falls begins just behind Mather Lodge in the park and takes you down into a canyon. It’s about 2 miles round trip and considered moderate to strenuous. It has lots of large rocks and a steep ascent.
